HP Recommended

I have a DeskJet 2636 printer and it was printing blanks. As I went through the trouble shooting process, it suddenly started telling me the printer cartridges I was using were old and no longer compatible, but the cartridges are the ones that came with the printer. Is there a way to get replacement cartridges for free? I don’t really want to spend more money to replace the cartridge and then the printer still prints blanks. 

ive contacted the customer support chat but haven’t heard anything back for an hour.
