I changed the cartridge and cleaned and it still states this. Its an 8600 ink jet I've had for years is it worth fixing? Does anyone know what it woukd cost?

Hi @Cinderella66,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Verify that you are using the correct HP genuine cartridges compatible with your HP OfficeJet 8600.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the printer and remove the cartridges.
  • Clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridges with a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Clean the corresponding contacts in the printer.
  • Reinstall the cartridges and turn the printer back on.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Update Firmware:

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

Run Diagnostic Tool:

  • Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any issues. Download it here and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect both the cartridges and the printer’s cartridge holder for any signs of physical damage.

I hope this helps.
