Hi @Donald87,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e is prompting you to scan the alignment page after installing new ink, follow these steps.

Print the Alignment Page

  1. After installing the new cartridges, the printer should automatically print an alignment page.
  2. If it does not print automatically:
    • On the printer control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to print the alignment page.

Scan the Alignment Page

  1. Lift the scanner lid and place the alignment page face down on the scanner glass.
  2. Align the page to the marked corners on the scanner glass (usually at the top-right corner).
  3. Close the scanner lid.
  4. Press OK or Scan on the printer's display panel.
  5. The printer should scan the page and complete the alignment.

Restart if Needed

  • If the printer does not recognize the scanned alignment page, restart the printer and repeat the alignment process.

Perform Alignment via HP Smart App (Optional)

If the scanner still does not recognize the alignment page:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone.
  2. Go to Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.
  3. Follow the prompts to print and scan the alignment page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
