HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw

Hi all,

My HP LaserJet MFP M281fdw is printing very poorly—faded colors, streaking, and major color inaccuracies. I’ve run all available onboard reports (diagnostic + print quality) but nothing’s helped.

I’ve tried running the Cleaning Page multiple times, but it jams right at the end every time. I’ve also opened up the back, gently cleaned visible rollers and areas with isopropyl alcohol + microfiber cloth, and updated the firmware.

The printer is connected via ethernet and on a stable local network. It’s in a clean, low-dust space, though the ambient temp is cold (~50°F)—not sure if that’s relevant.

Attaching scans of both the diagnostic and print quality reports. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

That looks like a toner cartridge issue. Are you using original HP or non-HP refilled toners?

Thanks for the reply, I am using HP Toner.

Opening the back does not give you access to the pickup roller. it is located in the paper tray cavity, near the back. You cannot access the roller without using the secondary service menu to rotate the roller. You will find videos on you tube on how to do that. Cleaning alone may not help. If the ridges are worn off and the roller is smooth you will need to replace it.

In terms of cartridges, what is the remaining toner percentage, because I agree with @Valsimot  that your toners are likely the cause of your print quality issues.

I'll look into some videos on YouTube as suggested and take a look at that feed roller. I'm curious why it would only be jamming during the cleaning cycle and not any other printed media (currently only running single and double-sided 8.5x11).

Toner levels are approximately the bottom 1/3 if I were to estimate.

Not sure what I was necessarily looking for, but the feed rollers look good (meaning they were clean, not worn, rolled smoothly). I guess I'd question if they are supposed to be smooth or have a slight texture. It was hard to tell from the videos what a "worn" roller is supposed to look like.

Just bumping this because I'm still having the same issue. We also haven't discussed why I can double sided print just fine, but as soon as I go to run the HP Cleaning Page, it Jams at the outfeed.
