So received this printer yesterday, set it up fine. Had a few horizontal lines yesterday , performed clean, alignment etc still the same. Today had error message B30C4DB9 now no Magenta or Yellow whatsoever when printing the diagnostic page. Performed numerous cleans, still the same! Any suggestions please?

Hi @Stonecumebony,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the detailed info — with a new HP Smart Tank 7606, a B30C4DB9 error, and missing Magenta/Yellow, this sounds like either a printhead issue, an airlock in the ink system, or a defective printer right out of the box.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps:
Solution 1. Fix Magenta/Yellow Not Printing (After Full Setup)
Step 1: Check Ink Levels Visually
Open the tank covers and ensure:
- Magenta and Yellow tanks are at least ¼ full
- No visible air bubbles or leaks in the ink lines
Step 2: Prime Ink System
Use the printer’s touchscreen:
- Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Ink System Maintenance
- Select "Prime Ink System" (or similar wording — sometimes called “Restore Ink Flow”)
- If this option isn't available, do another "Deep Clean" or "Clean Printhead"
Step 3: Print Quality Diagnostic Page
- From the printer control panel or the HP Smart app
- If Magenta and Yellow are completely missing, the ink may not be reaching the printhead
Solution 2. Remove & Reinstall the Printhead Assembly
- Power off the printer and open the cartridge door
- Wait for the printhead to center
- Gently lift the entire printhead assembly (if removable on this model — refer to your user manual)
- Wipe only the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water
- Reinstall and make sure the latch is secured properly
Be extremely careful not to touch the nozzles directly.
Solution 3. Try Manual Printhead Cleaning (Advanced Step)
If you're technically comfortable, try a manual cleaning:
- Remove the printhead
- Place the nozzles onto a paper towel dampened with warm distilled water
- Wait 5–10 minutes
- Gently dab to encourage ink flow
- Reinstall, run another alignment and test the page
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
