Hi @Raza98,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it can be when you’re excited to set up a brand-new printer and it won’t cooperate.

When you first turn on your new printer, the printhead carriage (the part that holds the ink printheads) should automatically slide to the centre for you to install the printheads. If it’s not moving, it’s usually one of these:

  • The protective packaging or tape hasn’t been fully removed.
  • The printer isn’t starting up properly.
  • A paper jam or mechanical blockage is holding it back.

1️. Turn Off the Printer

  • Press the Power button to turn the printer off.
  • Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.

2️. Open the Printer

  • Lift the top ink access door (where you expect the printhead holder to move).
  • Carefully check for orange tape, cardboard, or protective plastic clips inside the printer and carriage area.
  • Remove all packaging material. HP printers come with protective parts inside to prevent damage during shipping.

3️. Manually Check the Carriage

  • With the power off, gently try moving the printhead holder (carriage) left and right.
  • It should slide freely without resistance.
  • If it's stuck, check for any small obstructions, bits of tape, or packaging around the carriage track.

4️. Plug In and Power On

  • Plug the printer back into the wall outlet (avoid power strips if possible).
  • Turn the printer back on.
  • Wait a moment — the printhead carriage should move to the centre automatically.

5️. If It Still Doesn’t Move

  • Try performing a semi-reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug it.
    • Wait 60 seconds.
    • Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
