Hi @jacquelynnm,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing supply problems with a new ink cartridge in your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the new ink cartridge is properly installed. Open the printer cover and make sure the cartridge is securely in place.
- Remove and Reinsert the Cartridge: Sometimes, simply removing and reinserting the cartridge can resolve connectivity issues. Take out the cartridge and reinsert it firmly.
- Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that you have removed any protective tape or packaging from the cartridge. This tape is often present to protect the ink and contacts during transportation.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. This can help the printer recognize the new cartridge.
- Update Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and remove the cartridge. Wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridge with a clean, lint-free cloth. Be gentle and avoid touching the nozzles.
- Check for Low or Empty Cartridges: Make sure that the new cartridge is not low on ink or empty. Some printers provide information about ink levels through the control panel or printer software.
- Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges may cause compatibility issues and are not recommended.
- Reset Printer: If the issue persists, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
