HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I just changed my cartridges and immediately got an error message, "There is a problem with the system supply," which then goes on to suggest remedies, primarily replacing a cartridge. The printer indicated that the cyan cartridge was the problem so I inserted a new one but got the same message. I have reseated all cartridges and rebooted my printer five times to no avail. Is there anything that can be done here?

Hi @Dbirds1

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e is stuck with a System Supply Problem error, even after replacing the cyan cartridge and rebooting multiple times.

Let's go through some HP-specific troubleshooting steps to resolve this.

Steps to Fix HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e System Supply Problem

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cyan cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging that might still be attached.
  • Reinsert the cartridge, making sure it clicks into place securely.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Take out the cyan cartridge.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Let the contacts dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Use the HP Smart app to check for firmware updates:
    • Open the HP Smart app.
    • Select your printer.
    • Look for firmware updates and install them if available.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

5. Try a Different Cyan Cartridge

  • If the issue persists, try using a new cyan cartridge (preferably a genuine HP cartridge).
  • Some users have reported that replacing the cartridge again resolved the issue.
