I recently loaded all the ink tanks with original product but it is not printing the cian ink, and on the Status Report the cian tank shows it empty, although it's totally full. I've already turned the printer off and on again and the problem persists.

Hi @NayaraNitole,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Smart Tank 517 printer is not recognizing the cyan ink even though the tank is full. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Check the Ink Tank and Refill Ink Levels

Ensure that the cyan ink tank is properly filled and that there are no air bubbles or blockages in the ink line. If the ink tank is not seated properly or there are air bubbles, it might cause the printer to think the tank is empty.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer and check the status of the ink levels again.

3. Clean the Printhead

Ink may not be flowing properly due to a clogged printhead. To clean the printhead:

  1. Go to the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app.
  2. Navigate to the maintenance section.
  3. Select the option to clean the printhead.

4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, an update can fix bugs related to ink level detection.

  1. Go to the HP Support website.
  2. Download the latest firmware for your HP Smart Tank 517.
  3. Follow the instructions to update your printer’s firmware.

5. Check for Blockages or Issues in the Ink Line

Ensure there are no kinks or blockages in the ink line from the tank to the printhead. If necessary, carefully remove and reseat the ink tank.

6. Reset the Ink Level Sensor

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the ink tank compartment.
  3. Remove the cyan ink tank and gently shake it.
  4. Reinsert the cyan ink tank, making sure it is securely seated.
  5. Close the compartment, plug in the printer, and turn it back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
