Hi @KE2610,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer where the cartridges will not slide all the way into the slots:
Check for Obstructions:
- Open the printer and inspect the cartridge slots for any obstructions or debris.
- Use a flashlight to get a better view inside the slots.
Proper Cartridge Alignment:
- Ensure that you are inserting the cartridges at the correct angle.
- Each cartridge should align with the corresponding color-coded slot. Double-check that each cartridge is in the correct slot (e.g., black in black, cyan in cyan).
Inspect Cartridges:
- Check the cartridges for any visible damage or manufacturing defects.
- Ensure that the plastic tape covering the contacts and ink nozzles has been removed (if applicable).
Reinstall Cartridges:
- Remove all cartridges and turn off the printer.
- Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for a minute.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Reinsert the cartridges one by one, making sure each clicks into place.
Reset the Printer:
- Sometimes a simple reset can solve the issue. Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
Firmware Update:
- Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve cartridge recognition issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and in the printer using a lint-free cloth and a small amount of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the cartridges.
Printer Troubleshooting Tool:
- Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix common printing problems.
- Download and run the tool from the HP support website.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
