The printer says that the K ink cartridge is empty but it is a new one HP original. How do I solve that?

Hi @GCAB16,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is saying the black (K) ink cartridge is empty, even though you've just installed a new original HP cartridge, here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Confirm Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure the cartridge is a genuine HP and compatible with your printer model.
  • Check the cartridge number (e.g., HP 67, HP 305, etc.) matches what your printer supports.

Step 2: Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  3. Remove the black (K) cartridge.
  4. Gently wipe the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth.
  5. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Step 3: Clean Cartridge Contacts (Both Printer and Cartridge)

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Let dry for 10 minutes before reinserting.

Step 4: Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn the printer on.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
