HP has been representing to me that their practice of limiting replacement cartridges to HP, only was in the process of being remedied. Everytime I have an HP cartridge refilled by Costco at a substantial savings, my OfficeJet Pro 7740 "rejects" it and I am forced to purchase over priced HP cartridges because I am trying to run a business ans can't spend 45 minutes on hold, only to be told the same excuse by a non-technical representative, who has obviously been given a script to read to placate or frustrate customers.

HP knows for a fact that it is in lviolation of patent and anti-trust law, but also knows that most customers have neither the time nor the resourses to bring HP to court to enjoin this practice.

If anyone on this thread knows an intellectual property attorney, this case would be a slam dunk--HP must have thousands of these complaints.

Hi @Bill53101

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
