Envy 5055

I have bought a new but opened box  Envy 5055 Printer not from a retailer, but from a private party. This printer has never been used, and has never been initialized because it has no start up cartridges.  Hp's only solution is to "return it to the retailer."  Because there is no retailer to return to; this otherwise perfectly good and essentially brand new printer will end up in a landfill somewhere. I am angry about what this does to the environment, my pocket book, and time wasted on this otherwise good printer. Ebay and Facebook marketplace are full of these printers and they will all end up in landfills because they are unusable without the "the original start up cartridges that came with the printer." What a complete waste and harm all around. I am very disappointed in HP

Not sure who you talked to but usually HP can provide a bypass code to allow the setup via a set of standard cartridges. Out of warranty though they would likely charge you for a support call. I have tagged the moderators on this and asked them to have someone from HP reach out to you. Look for a private message.

@AKN7, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To bypass the message on the printer the only option left is to perform an OOBE reset and re-initialize the printer.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Support Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.

Let me know if this helps.
