Hi @RajeevAgrawal,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw printer is displaying a "Install toner" message and the orange light keeps blinking, despite having the toner cartridges installed,
here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check Toner Cartridge Installation
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the printer's front cover and carefully remove the toner cartridges.
- Inspect the cartridges for any protective seals or tapes that may not have been removed during installation.
- Reinsert the toner cartridges carefully, ensuring they click into place properly.
2. Verify Genuine HP Toner Cartridges
- Ensure that you are using genuine HP toner cartridges, as non-genuine cartridges may not be recognized by the printer. If you are using compatible or refilled cartridges, the printer may have difficulty recognizing them.
3. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for about 5 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This may help reset the connection between the printer and the cartridges.
4. Check Cartridge Chip or Sensor
- Each toner cartridge has a chip or sensor that helps the printer detect its presence. Inspect the chip on the cartridges for any damage or dirt, and clean them gently with a dry, lint-free cloth.
- Make sure no paper or debris is blocking the chip or sensor inside the printer.
5. Update Firmware/Drivers Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or from the HP website. Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve recognition issues with toner cartridges.
6. Reset Toner Cartridge Settings
- Navigate to your printer's settings menu and look for an option to reset the toner cartridge settings. This can sometimes clear errors related to unrecognized cartridges.
7. Try Another Cartridge
- If possible, try using a new toner cartridge (even if it’s just one color) to see if the problem is specific to a particular cartridge.
Refer to this document: HP Color Laser MFP 178nw User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
