I have a HP color laserjet printer model number mfp M283fdw. I bought it used, the seller said he checked it before listing it and it was fine. I had used it here and there after I got it. Nothing major. I went to make several copies of minutes and 4 pages were fine the rest (16) came out all colorful streaks going down the page like crazy. I took the paper to my local Staples and he said it looked like a busted drum of sorts. I have tried looking for a way to speak to HP support but unable to do so.

Hi @missyz77,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re experiencing issues with the color drum or another component of your HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw. The colorful streaks could indeed indicate a problem with the imaging drum or possibly the toner cartridges.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Check the Imaging Drum: Open the printer and check the imaging drum. If it looks damaged or worn, it might need to be replaced. The imaging drum is a crucial component for transferring toner to paper, and issues with it can cause print quality problems.
- Inspect Toner Cartridges: Make sure the toner cartridges are installed correctly and not leaking. Sometimes, issues with toner cartridges can cause streaks or color problems.
- Clean the Printer: Dust and toner residue inside the printer can sometimes cause streaking. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to clean the interior.
- Run a Printer Diagnostic: Many HP printers have built-in diagnostic tools. Check the printer’s menu for a diagnostic or maintenance option and run it to see if it detects any issues.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve printing issues. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and see if there are any available firmware updates for your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the manual for this printer in hopes I could find where to check the drum. I was unable to find anything. Where would I find the drum? I did take out all the toner cartridges and printed out 20 pages of the manual with no trouble. Could that have fixed it? I did buy it used and it traveled quite a ways for shipping.

I was looking forward to your reply to my message I sent last night only to find that you are wanting to close this case.
I STILL NEED HELP!!
I downloaded the manual last night in hopes to find the drum you are referring to. But it did not show anything on the inside outside of opening the door for the toner cartridges. Please show me where this drum is. It is fine to send as an attachment. I did take out each cartridge and they seemed fine. I also printed out 20 pages of the manual to see if it would streak and it was fine. Not sure if that is all it took or not.
