macOS 10.15 Catalina

Error message reads "There is a problem with the printer or ink system."  I have replaced all the cartridges and reset power.  Message does not change and will not allow printer to perform print operation.  When I check the ink supplies, I see a good supply of  cyan, yellow and black but the magenta appears near empty and carries a warning signal.  I replaced the magenta a second time but the low fill reading persists.  The ink diagnostic also reads "marker supply empty".  Would appreciate suggestions on how to proceed.

I understand that you are getting ink system failure errors, I am glad to assist you.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer failures.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

  5. NOTE: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Check for obstructions in the carriage path

Clear obstructions from the carriage area inside the printer.

  1. With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  2. Open the door to access the carriage inside of the printer.

  3. Look in the carriage path for debris such as crumpled paper or dislodged labels, and then remove any that you find.

  4. Use your hand to move the carriage to each side, making sure it moves freely. If the carriage is stalled or docked to one side of the printer and you cannot move it, continue with these steps.

  5. Close the carriage access door.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then turn the printer on.
