New, out of warranty HP 6520.  Setup cartridge is lost due to us moving.  I can't get past the setup screen.

Jay_G24,

The model is HP Photosmart 6520.  I hope you can get me through this.

We would have to perform an OOBE reset on the printer to bypass the error

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

When I do the TL, BL, TL, TL the screen goes to a demo of the printer before I can do the second and third TL. In the BL of the screen is a Retain Demo window.  I am sure when I do the BL press I activate the Retail Demo procedure.

Keep pushing the keys in the sequence continuously, you will get to the service menu.

Hope this helps!

I am finally in the memus.  The first text I see is Support Menu.  Within that menu I see Reset Menu, within that memu I see Country/language reset, Partian Reset and Semi-Full Reset.  I don't see OOBE selection.  I selected Semi-Full reset and the printer turned itself off.  When I turned it back on, I reset language, region and we went back top the setup memu which showed tUse SETUP Cartridges.  Must not have done the OOBE reset.

Re entering Menus, I see Reports Menu, Scan Diagnostics Menu, Support with a series of letters and numbers, Information Menu, Resets Menu, System Configuration Menu, Print Diagnostic Menu, Connectivity Menu.  I don't see OOBE Reset.

Continued to search.Under System Configuration menu I see TradeatOOBE.  Trade was disabled. I hit OK and enabled Trade.  I backed out and turned off the printer.  I turned it back on and it started to run self-checks. The setup menu was up. I clicked on it and it is working. WaHooo!

Hello! Jay_G24.  All is well with the HP Photosmart 6520.  It is a good printer.  I am glad I was able, with your help, to get past the "Use Setup Ink Cartridges" message. Thank you!
