There is a vertical line down the middle of scanned and copied documents. I have cleaned the printer-heads and printed a test page, and there are no issues.

Hi @Michele_17, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding vertical lines on scanned copies!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're seeing a vertical line down the middle of scanned or copied documents but prints are fine, the issue is likely with the scanner. Here’s how to fix it:

1. Clean the Scanner Glass and ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Open the scanner lid and wipe the glass with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of glass cleaner (do not spray directly on the glass).
  • If using the ADF, clean the ADF glass strip (small glass strip on the left or right of the main scanner glass).

2. Check for Debris or Scratches

  • Inspect the glass for any dirt, smudges, or scratches—even a small mark can cause lines.
  • If there is a scratch, try scanning from a different area of the glass.

3. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Go to HP Support and download the latest drivers for the HP Smart Tank 530.
  • Uninstall the printer from Control Panel > Devices and Printers, then reinstall it with the updated drivers.

4. Perform a Scanner Reset

  • Unplug the printer while it’s powered on, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Try scanning again to check if the issue persists.

5. Test with a Different Scan Source

  • Scan from the HP Smart app or Windows Fax & Scan instead of the default scanner software.
  • If scanning from ADF causes issues, try scanning from the flatbed glass instead.

If the problem continues, there may be a hardware issue with the scanner sensor Let me know if you need more help! 😊
