Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer prints vertical lines on all forms of printing.  ADF produces a line, flatbed produces a line, and copying produces a line.  Cleaning has lightened the line slightly, but continues to present on all copies.

Hi @PrintAnnoyed,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Vertical lines on all forms of printing typically indicate an issue with the drum or imaging components in your HP LaserJet Pro M428. Since cleaning has only slightly improved the situation, it might be time to check or replace the following components.

  • Drum Unit: The drum can wear out or get damaged, leading to lines or streaks. Try replacing the drum unit if it's old or if you suspect it's the issue.
  • Toner Cartridges: A toner cartridge might be defective or low on toner. Try replacing the toner cartridge or cartridges if you have more than one.
  • Fuser: Although less common, issues with the fuser can also cause vertical lines. Check if the fuser needs replacement.
  • Cleaning Components: Ensure that all cleaning components are properly maintained. Sometimes, dust or toner buildup can cause lines.
  • Connections and Alignment: Check the internal connections and alignment of the drum and toner cartridges. Misalignment can cause printing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
