What do I need to do to start the automatic servicing on my HP6520 printer / black ink won't print

HP Recommended
HP Photosmart 6520

I have put all new HP ink in the printer, run the clean head and align print functions. The black ink will not print.

I have white streaks running through the printed pages. I've run Printer Alignment and Print Quality Test. Print Quality Diagnostic page looks good, but when I run the Printer Status Report, the streaks are there. I generally print only black and white pages - I'm becoming suspicious of the black cartridge. All were put in new HP cartridges within the last week. 

Any suggestions other than replacing just the black cartridge first?

After reading these forum entries, I believe this is a known problem (or "feature") to require purchasing a new printer. The HP Customer Support pages suggest letting the "automatic servicing" complete, but I cannot find ANYTHING ANYWHERE saying how "automatic servicing" gets started and how I can tell! SEVERAL people with several different types of HP printers are having the same issues - black ink does not print, or prints with gaps/streaks, etc. All other colors print FINE; have replaced the black cartridge TWICE, cleaned print heads 5 times and aligned print heads...problem still exists

Thanks for your reply. Was hoping that wasn't the case  - just replaced the printer cartridges a couple weeks ago.
