Hi @Jhopp,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer suddenly stops working due to a cartridge error, especially when you're in the middle of something important. Let's work together to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

1. Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check and Reseat Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer cover and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Remove all ink cartridges.
  • Inspect for any damage, leaks, or dried ink on the nozzles.
  • Gently clean the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their respective slots.
  • Close the printer cover and check if the error clears.

3. Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges and not third-party refills.
  • If using third-party cartridges, try replacing them with original HP cartridges.

4. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the ink cartridges.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Let them dry completely before reinserting.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit HP Support and check for the latest firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Install the update and restart the printer.

6. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait for 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try printing again.

7. Replace the Problematic Cartridge

  • If the error persists, replace the damaged cartridge with a new HP ink cartridge.
