Hi @Selinja,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you are experiencing some printing issues with your HP Inktank 720 printer. Wet prints and smudges can be caused by a few different factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Check the paper type: Make sure you are using the correct type of paper that is compatible with your printer. Using the wrong paper can lead to ink not drying properly and causing wet prints.
  • Check the ink levels: Ensure that your ink cartridges have enough ink. Low ink levels can affect print quality. If the ink levels are low, replace or refill the ink cartridges.
  • Inspect the print heads: Clogged or misaligned print heads can lead to poor print quality. Most printers have a utility for cleaning and aligning the print heads. Refer to your printer's manual on how to perform these tasks.
  • Adjust print settings: In the printer settings, verify that you have selected the correct paper type and print quality settings. Sometimes using a higher quality or a different paper type may help in achieving better results.
  • Let prints dry properly: If the prints are coming out wet, it's possible that the ink isn't given enough time to dry before handling the paper. Allow the prints to air-dry for a few minutes before touching them.
  • Clean the printer's interior: Dust and debris inside the printer can affect print quality. Turn off the printer, unplug it, and gently clean the interior with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Inspect the printer's rollers: Worn-out or dirty rollers can cause smudging issues. Check the rollers for any debris or damage, and clean them if necessary.
  • Use the appropriate print settings for grayscale: If you're experiencing smudging when printing grayscale, try adjusting the grayscale print settings. You may need to select a different print mode or adjust the ink density.
  • Update or reinstall printer drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause printing problems. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
