When trying to print A3 the quality is extremely poor and wont print in colour even though colour has been selected. When I drop to A4 it is perfect and also when I select Black and white for A3 it is perfect.

You didn't specify the printer model you have, but this is a known issue on HP Officejet 7720 7730 and 7740 when using Microsoft drivers in WIN OS. You must go to hp.com and install HP drivers, not Microsoft ones.
