Hi @JFMit,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing, where black stripes appear on printed pages with colored tables in Word documents, could be caused by several factors, including printer settings, the print driver, or how the document is formatted. Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve this problem.

Check Print Settings:

Ensure Color Printing is Enabled:

  • Open Word and go to File > Print.
  • Check that Color is selected in the print settings.
  • Ensure that the print quality is set to the desired setting (e.g., Normal or Best).

Disable Grayscale:

  • Ensure that the printer is not set to print in grayscale mode, as this might cause issues with colored sections.
  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Printing Preferences.
  • Look for options such as Print in grayscale or Black & white only and make sure these are unchecked.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause issues with how the printer interprets certain elements in documents like tables.
    • Visit the HP Support website and check for the latest drivers for your printer model.
    • Download and install any available updates.

Try a Different Document:

  • Create a new document with a colored table and print it to see if the issue persists. This helps determine if the problem is document-specific.

Check Ink or Toner Levels:

  • If your printer's ink or toner is running low, it could cause printing defects. Check the levels and replace any low cartridges.
  • For laser printers, check if the toner is evenly distributed or if the drum needs cleaning.

Print Head Alignment and Cleaning:

  • For inkjet printers, try performing a print head alignment and cleaning from the printer's maintenance settings.
    • This can be done from the printer's control panel or through the HP Smart app.

Change Document Settings:

  • If the problem is specific to the document, try adjusting the table's settings in Word:
    • Right-click the table and select Table Properties.
    • Under the Borders and Shading tab, ensure that no incorrect borders are set that might cause black stripes.
    • Check that the table background colors are set correctly and no overlapping objects are creating visual issues.

Try a Different Program:

  • Export your Word document as a PDF and try printing it from a PDF viewer to see if the issue is related to Word.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Some HP printers may have a firmware update that resolves printing issues. Check your printer's support page for any available updates and install them if necessary.

After trying these steps, your printer should ideally print tables without the black stripes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
