HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer

My printer won't print in colour except for test prints managed by the printer.

I have followed the HP guidance for cleaning printer cartridges, and aligning new cartridges. I have just installed new HP 305 cartridges.

I have checked for default settings being set up for black and white only within MACOS, can't find anything to select that indicates colour printing.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this printer to print in colour?

Thank you!

Hi @Moretea1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already taken several good steps to troubleshoot your HP Deskjet 2710e. Here are a few additional things you can check to resolve the issue of it not printing in color.

Check Print Settings in the Print Dialogue Box

Even though you’ve checked the default settings, sometimes the color option can still be disabled. Try the following:

  • When you go to print, click File > Print from your application (such as Word, PDF viewer, etc.).
  • In the print dialogue box, expand the settings by clicking Show Details (if it’s collapsed).
  • Under the Presets section, ensure that Color is selected rather than Black & White.

Reset Printing System (on macOS)

Sometimes, resetting the printing system can resolve issues:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click on the list of printers (or hold the Control key and click), and select Reset printing system.
  • After resetting, re-add your HP Deskjet 2710e and try printing again in color.

Check for Driver Updates

Make sure your printer drivers are up to date:

  • Go to HP’s website and download the latest printer drivers for macOS for the Deskjet 2710e.
  • Install the latest drivers and restart your computer before trying again.

Use HP Smart App

If you haven’t already, try using the HP Smart App for macOS:

  • Download it from the App Store if you don’t already have it installed.
  • Once installed, run a print job through the app to see if it recognizes the color options.

Verify Firmware Updates

Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date:

  • Open the HP Smart App, navigate to your printer, and look for firmware updates.
  • Updating the firmware may fix bugs that could affect color printing.

Printer Settings for Black & White

Sometimes printers default to monochrome printing in certain apps, or the settings might be "sticky." Here’s what to do:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and then click Options & Supplies.
  • Look for any settings related to Print Mode or Color Options, and ensure it’s set to Color.

Run a Printer Diagnostic Report

You can also print a printer diagnostic report directly from the printer:

  • Hold down the Cancel button on the printer for 3 seconds (this should trigger the diagnostic page).
  • Check if the colors appear properly on this report, and note if there’s any color missing or faded.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
