@Tactul,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

[EDITTED:]

An HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e All-in-One Printer has a built-in security measure designed to prevent the use of non-HP ink cartridges. While some users attempt to bypass these measures, it's important to note that doing so can have potential consequences, including voiding your printer's warranty, causing compatibility issues, and affecting print quality.

However, if you're determined to proceed, here's a general outline of steps people might try. Keep in mind that these steps might not work for all printer models or firmware versions, and they can carry risks:

1. Disable Automatic Firmware Updates: Prevent your printer from automatically updating its firmware. Newer firmware versions might include security measures that block non-HP ink cartridges. Check your printer settings or the HP Smart app for an option to disable automatic firmware updates: YouTube: "How to turn off firmware update to using non HP or refill cartridges for HP OfficeJet Pro 9010".

2. Rollback to Older Firmware: Some users have attempted to roll back to an older firmware version that might not have the same security measures. This can be a complicated process and might not always be successful. Check online resources or forums for guidance on how to perform a firmware rollback for your specific printer model.

However, these methods can be unreliable and might still lead to compatibility or print quality issues.

It's important to emphasize yet again that attempting to bypass the printer's security measures to use non-HP ink cartridges carries certain risks:

  1. Quality Issues: Non-HP ink cartridges might not provide the same print quality and reliability as genuine HP cartridges, potentially leading to poor results.

  2. Compatibility Problems: Non-HP cartridges might not be fully compatible with your printer, leading to error messages, malfunctioning, or even damaging the printer.

  3. Warranty Void: If you modify your printer's firmware or use non-HP cartridges, your printer's warranty might be voided, meaning HP might not provide support or repairs for your printer.

  4. Unpredictable Results: Bypassing security measures can have unpredictable consequences on printer functionality and performance.

Before attempting any of these steps, carefully weigh the risks and potential benefits. If you're determined to use non-HP ink cartridges, make sure to do thorough research, understand the implications, and proceed with caution and at your own volition.

It is generally recommended -and as an HP printer User myself I wholeheartedly agree: use genuine HP ink cartridges to ensure the best quality, reliability, and printer performance.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

I was provided with NON HP  replacement cartirdges by the company that I purchased my OfficeJet Pro 9010 e. According to Australian Consumer Law I am supposed to be able to use any brand of ink cartridge.

Based on this, How do I get my printer to accept these cartridges?

@Tactul,

That is a really good question, and to be honest, the company from whom you purchased your HP OfficeJet should provide the answer.
