Hi @Dmp70
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating that your printer is not copying, even though it has new ink. There can be a variety of reasons why a printer might fail to print or copy, even when there is ink in the cartridges. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to help you fix the issue.
1. Check Printer Status and Connection
- Check if the printer is powered on: Ensure that the power light is on and the printer is ready to print. If the printer is in sleep mode, try waking it up by pressing a button.
- Check the display panel: If your printer has a display panel, check for any error messages or warnings about the printer or ink cartridges.
- Confirm the printer is properly connected: If you’re using Wi-Fi, make sure the printer is still connected to your network. If it's a USB connection, ensure the cable is securely plugged in.
2. Check Ink Cartridges
Even though you have new ink cartridges, it's a good idea to verify a few things:
- Cartridges properly installed: Ensure the cartridges are seated correctly. Sometimes, the ink cartridge might not be installed properly, which prevents the printer from recognizing it.
- Protective tape on cartridges: If you installed new cartridges, check that the protective tape (often covering the ink nozzle) has been removed.
- Ink cartridge status: Even with new cartridges, the printer may show that the ink is "low" or "empty" due to a sensor issue. If this happens, try removing and reinserting the cartridges.
3. Perform a Printer Reset
A simple reset can sometimes resolve software or communication issues:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer.
- Wait about 30 seconds and plug the power cord back in.
- Turn the printer back on. After restarting, try printing or copying again.
4. Check for Paper Jams
- Inspect for paper jams: Check the paper tray and the paper feed mechanism to ensure there are no paper jams, as this can prevent the printer from functioning properly.
- Clear any blockages: If you find a jam, gently remove the paper. Make sure no small pieces of paper are left behind.
5. Check Printer Settings and Software
- If you’re printing from a computer, ensure the correct printer is selected in the print dialog.
- Cancel any pending print jobs: Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the queue, preventing new ones from printing. Go to your print queue (from your computer’s Control Panel or Printer Settings) and cancel any pending jobs.
- Update or reinstall printer drivers: If you’re using the printer on a computer, make sure the drivers are up to date. Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers can prevent printing or copying.
6. Check for Firmware Updates
- Some printer issues can be fixed with firmware updates. Check the printer manufacturer’s website for any available firmware updates for your model. If you have HP, you can use HP Smart or the HP website to find and install updates.
7. Clean the Printhead
A dirty printhead can prevent the ink from being transferred to the paper properly, which may cause blank or faded prints. To clean the printhead:
I hope this helps.
