@Muhlzee, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e is not printing in color, and I’ll be happy to help you get this resolved.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Check Printer Settings

  1. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e and select Printing Preferences.
  3. Under the Paper/Quality or Color tab, ensure Color is selected (not Grayscale or Black & White).
  4. Click Apply and then OK.

Print a Test Page

This helps determine if the issue is with the printer or the software.

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report.
  • If the color blocks are missing or faded, it may indicate a cartridge or printhead issue.

Clean the Printhead

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. You may need to run the cleaning cycle 2–3 times for best results.

Check Ink Levels

  • On the printer screen or via the HP Smart app, check if the color cartridges have sufficient ink.
  • If any cartridge is low or empty, replace it.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause printing issues.

  • Download the latest firmware from the HP Support page.
  • Select your printer model and operating system to get the correct update.

Optional: Use HP Smart App

The HP Smart app can help diagnose and fix many issues automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
