HP Smart Tank 7001 All-in-One

I cannot get the yellow ink in my Smart Tank to work.  There was some air in the line, which I have removed, then replaced the line, and air immediately back-fills into the line about 1.5".  The other colors are printing fine and even if I allow air into the lines, the printer will push it through and print anyway.  The yellow will not print at all.  The line does not seem to be clogged as it draws out just fine with a syringe, but it doesn't seem like the ink is pumping through when in use.  Help please - TIA.

Hi @LINDSEYHOEHN,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand there might be a few different issues at play with your HP Smart Tank 7001 All-In-One printer's yellow ink.

Here are several steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Ink Levels:

  • Make sure the yellow ink tank is adequately filled. Sometimes, low ink levels can cause air to enter the lines.

Check for Air Leaks:

  • Since you've mentioned that air keeps back-filling into the line, ensure there are no air leaks in the line or the connections. Check for any cracks or loose connections.

Run Printer Maintenance:

  • Use the printer’s built-in maintenance tools to clean the print head and align the cartridges. This can often resolve issues with ink flow.
    • On your printer, navigate to the maintenance menu (usually found in the settings) and run the "Clean Printhead" and "Printhead Alignment" processes.

Check Printhead:

  • The printhead itself may be clogged or malfunctioning. Try the following:
    • Remove the printhead and clean it with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
    • Be gentle to avoid damaging the nozzles.
    • Reinstall the printhead and run the cleaning cycle again.

Inspect the Ink Pump:

  • The ink pump responsible for moving the yellow ink may be malfunctioning. If you're comfortable, you can inspect the pump mechanism. Look for any signs of wear or blockages.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes a simple reset can solve various issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 5 minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Firmware Update:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
