First you won't let me choose the board.  It is a desktop!  Yellow cartridges for the last 4 times bought have shown that they are corrupt.  I have forged through knowing they are not and kept creating.  This 4th cartridge tells me it isn't even installed.  I reinstalled and it still says yellow ink not there.  I did the diagnostics and it told me the cartridge isn't installed.  I cannot print my artwork.  Can I have an answer.  Maybe about contact points or something?  Thanks

Hi @dopeydragon,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer is repeatedly failing to recognize new yellow 910 cartridges, even though they are installed correctly. Let’s go through steps to troubleshoot the issue.

a. Check for Protective Tape

Make sure any orange protective tape or film covering the contacts or nozzle is completely removed.

Only remove the tape covering the copper contacts and nozzle, not the label on top.

b. Inspect and Clean Cartridge Contacts

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Remove the yellow cartridge.

Using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge.

Also gently clean the contacts inside the printer’s cartridge slot.

Let contacts dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

c. Reseat Cartridge Properly

Reinsert the yellow cartridge firmly until you hear a click.

Make sure it’s seated flush and not tilted.

d. Reset the Printer

With the printer powered on, unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.

This can clear any false error messages about cartridge detection.

e. Try Another Cartridge (if possible)

Occasionally, cartridges are manufacturing-defective or damaged during shipping.

If cleaning and reseating don’t work, try a different new yellow cartridge.

f. Check for Firmware Update

Outdated printer firmware can cause repeated cartridge recognition issues.

Visit HP’s support page for your printer model and install the latest firmware update.

I hope this helps.

I wish you had replied earlier, but I did all that you suggested prior to reaching out.  For some reason the scanner went nuts.  To let you know I went and purchased an HP9125e, set it up and am happily creating again.  I am a big fan of HP.  Your inks last a long time and I use a lot!  Thanks for reaching out.  Sandy

Hi @dopeydragon,

Thank you so much for the update, and I really appreciate your patience.

I’m glad to hear you were able to get back to printing and creating with your new HP 9125e — that’s wonderful news! 😊 It sounds like the previous printer may have had a hardware-related cartridge detection issue, especially since you had already tried all the recommended steps and the scanner began acting up too.

Your loyalty to HP and your kind words about the print quality and ink longevity truly mean a lot — thank you for being such a valued part of the HP family.

If you ever need help setting up, optimizing print settings for artwork, or anything else, feel free to reach out anytime. Happy creating, Sandy!

Warm regards,

Hi KuroiThank you for your reply.  You confirmed I was not falling into insanity!  When the scanner didn't, wouldn't couldn't stop, I knew it was time.  My printer was having a heart attack!  But my research for a new printer brought me right back to HP.  I am happy and creating my snarky magnets, postcards and cards.  My friends rely on my HP creativity for a laugh!  Again, thank you for getting back.
