Hi @BubbysBubbles,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is printing blank pages despite trying both an old and a new black ink cartridge, here are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Ink Cartridge Installation

  • Power off your printer and carefully remove the black ink cartridge.Check for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on the cartridge.Reinstall the cartridge, making sure it is securely seated in the cartridge slot.
  • Ensure that the black ink cartridge is compatible with your specific printer model.

2. Check for Cartridge Status

Inspect Cartridge:

  • Examine the cartridge for any visible damage or leaks. If the cartridge is damaged, replace it with a new one.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Some printers have an option to check ink levels from the printer’s control panel or through the printer software on your computer.

3. Run Printer Diagnostics

Use Printer Software:

  • Open the printer software on your computer and run a diagnostic or maintenance utility.
  • Look for options like Print Head Cleaning or Ink Cartridge Calibration.

Run Cleaning Cycles:

  • Many printers have a built-in cleaning function to clear clogged print heads. Follow the instructions in your printer’s manual or on-screen prompts to perform this cleaning.

4. Check Print Head

Inspect Print Head:

  • If the printer has a removable print head, carefully remove it and inspect it for clogs or dried ink. Consult your printer’s manual for specific instructions on how to remove and clean the print head.

Clean Print Head:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the print head contacts and nozzles. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling it.

5. Update Printer Driver:

  • Visit the printer HP website and download the latest drivers and firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Install the updates and restart your printer and computer.
  • Ensure that the printer settings are not set to print in color only or some other mode that might bypass the black ink.
  • Sometimes performing a reset can resolve issues with the printer. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

8. Try Different Paper and Print Settings

  • Make sure you are using the correct type of paper for your printer.:
  • Adjust the print quality settings in your printer’s software. Sometimes selecting a higher quality print mode can help diagnose the issue.

9. Consult Printer Manual

  1. Refer to Manual:
    • Consult the printer’s manual for specific troubleshooting steps related to black ink issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
