My husband was trying to put our computer on our network and when he registered it the machine will now not accept the ink cartriges my school provided me which are not HP but have always previously worked.  Now I do not have ink for my printer and am stuck with $$$$ of useless cartriges.  I need this fixed ASAP

Hi @STALLIV,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer has activated HP's cartridge protection feature, which restricts the printer to only accept cartridges from HP. This can happen particularly with printers that use HP Instant Ink or similar services, where the printer's firmware settings might change to only accept cartridges with HP's original chip or identification. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:

Check Printer Settings: First, check if there's an option in your printer settings to disable cartridge protection. This can sometimes be done directly from the printer's menu or through the software on your computer.

Printer Software/Firmware Update: Sometimes, a printer's firmware update might cause compatibility issues with non-HP cartridges. Check if there's an option to roll back to a previous firmware version or if there's a new update that addresses this issue. Click here

Use Genuine HP Cartridges Temporarily: While this doesn't solve the problem with your current cartridges, using genuine HP cartridges can be a temporary workaround to ensure your immediate printing needs are met. This also helps confirm if the issue is specifically with the non-HP cartridges or another problem with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
