Hi @jbtoots,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-In-One Printer cartridges are not communicating with the printer, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
May I know if you have changed the region ?
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed in the printer. Open the cartridge access door and make sure they are securely in place.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, dirt or debris can accumulate on the cartridge contacts, preventing communication with the printer. Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 1-2 minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and resolve communication issues.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually do this through the printer's settings menu or by visiting the HP support website and downloading the latest firmware for your printer model. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check for Software Updates: Make sure your printer driver and software are up to date. You can usually update these through the printer settings on your computer or by visiting the HP support website. Software and Drivers for HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer
- Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This will usually require navigating through the printer's settings menu. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to do this.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
