Hi @wiek10,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing communication issues with your HP ENVY Photo 6234 All-In-One Printer and the black Instant Ink cartridge. Communication issues between the printer and cartridges can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the black Instant Ink cartridge you are using is compatible with your HP ENVY Photo 6234 printer. HP printers often require specific types of cartridges, and using incompatible ones can lead to communication issues.
- Check for Cartridge Errors: On the printer's control panel or through the printer software on your computer, check for any error messages or warnings related to the black cartridge. If there is a specific error message, it can help pinpoint the issue.
- Reinsert the Cartridge: Sometimes, the cartridge may not be properly seated. Turn off the printer, open the cartridge access door, and gently remove the black cartridge. Then, reinsert it firmly and make sure it clicks into place.
- Clean Contacts: Ink residue or debris can accumulate on the cartridge contacts or in the cartridge bay, causing communication problems. Carefully clean both the cartridge contacts and the contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dampened with distilled water. Be sure the contacts are dry before reinserting the cartridge.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for a minute or two. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear temporary communication issues.
- Update Firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP support website and download and install any available firmware updates for your printer model.
- Check Your Internet Connection: HP Instant Ink relies on an active internet connection to communicate with your printer. Ensure that your printer is connected to Wi-Fi and that your internet connection is stable.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
