Cyan will not print

HP Recommended

All four tanks plenty of ink.  Cyan refuses to print, other three do.  Have tried cleaning printheads - no help.  What else?  Buy a new printer?

Hi @davey27,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your cyan ink is not printing despite having plenty of ink and running tests, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Remove and Reinstall Cyan Cartridge:

  • Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.Remove the cyan ink cartridge.Inspect the cartridge for any protective tape or plastic that might still be on it.Reinstall the cartridge firmly in its slot.

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the cyan cartridge is the correct model for your printer.

2. Clean the Printhead

Automatic Cleaning:

  • Access the printer’s maintenance menu and select the option for cleaning the printhead.Follow the on-screen instructions.

Manual Cleaning:

  • If the automatic cleaning doesn’t work, you may need to clean the printhead manually.
  • Consult your printer’s manual for instructions on how to access and clean the printhead.

3. Check Printhead Alignment

  1. Align Printhead:
    • Go to the printer’s maintenance menu and select the option for aligning the printhead.Follow the on-screen instructions to print an alignment page and calibrate the printhead.

4. Check for Clogged Nozzles

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a diagnostic or test page to see if cyan appears on the page.
  • Some printers have an option to print a nozzle check pattern from the maintenance menu.

Perform Nozzle Check:

  • If the cyan block is blank, it could be a sign of a clogged nozzle. Use the printhead cleaning option to try to resolve this.

5. Replace the Cyan Cartridge

  • If you’ve tried all the above steps and cyan still isn’t printing, try replacing the cyan cartridge with a new one.
  • Ensure the replacement cartridge is genuine and not expired or damaged.

6. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.Download and install any available firmware updates.

7. Check Printer Settings

  • Ensure that the print settings are correctly configured for color printing. On your computer, check the printer properties and make sure color printing is enabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
