Cartridge carrier can't move to center, therefore can't remove ink cartridges. Error code 0x6100004e displayed. There is no paper jam. Instructions to clear paper jam appear.

Hi @Cable201,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are getting an error message on your printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
Let's perform a power drain:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Power drain procedure was complete. Problem still present. Firmware update was performed using prompts on Printer screen. Problem still present. Cartridges can move a very little, maybe one-half inch, off the right position. I still can't find any paper jam or issue with paper tray,

Hi @Cable201 ,
Thank you for your response.
The error code 0x6100004e on HP printers typically indicates a problem with the ink cartridge carriage. Here are steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on and see if the error persists.
Check for Obstructions:
- Open the printer cover to access the cartridge area.
- Ensure there are no paper scraps, debris, or any other obstructions preventing the carriage from moving.
- If you find any obstructions, carefully remove them.
Manually Move the Carriage:
- With the printer turned off, try to manually move the carriage to the center. Be gentle to avoid damaging the printer.
- If it’s stuck, look for any visible reasons why it might be obstructed.
Check Carriage Path:
- Ensure the carriage path is clear and that the carriage can move freely along the entire width of the printer.
- Make sure the carriage belt and rail are clean and free of debris.
Inspect the Cartridges:
- If you manage to move the carriage to the center, remove the ink cartridges.
- Check the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks.
- Reinsert the cartridges, making sure they are properly seated.
Reset the Printer:
- Sometimes resetting the printer to its factory settings can resolve the issue. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
