My Envy 7645 wants me to remove and replace the cartridge, but the cartridge has been only very lightly used.  I cannot get beyond this error problem, so I cannot print.

Hi @tatapelu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 7645 printer is displaying a message to "Remove and Replace Cartridge" even though the cartridge is lightly used, it suggests there might be an issue with the cartridge or the printer's ability to recognize it. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Open the Cartridge Access Door:

  • Wait until the printer is completely stopped and the cartridges have moved to the center for easy access.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Gently remove the cartridge(s) from the printer.
  • Check for any visible damage or debris on the cartridge and in the cartridge slot.
  • Reinstall the cartridge(s), making sure they click into place securely.

Close the Access Door:

  • Close the cartridge access door and plug the printer back in.
  • Turn the printer on and check if the error message persists.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

Turn Off and Unplug the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.

Remove the Cartridge:

  • Carefully remove the cartridge(s) from the printer.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the copper-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge slot.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Reinstall the cartridge(s) and ensure they are seated properly.
  • Close the access door, plug the printer back in, and turn it on.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

Visit HP Support:

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your HP Envy 7645 printer.

Download and Install Firmware:

  • Check if there are any available firmware updates for your printer and follow the instructions to download and install them.

4. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

Check Cartridge Model:

  • Ensure that the cartridge model you are using is compatible with your HP Envy 7645 printer. Refer to the printer's manual or HP’s website for the correct cartridge model.

Replace with a Known Good Cartridge:

  • If possible, try using a new or known good cartridge to see if the error message disappears. This will help determine if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
