Hi @Hmarie1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer is only printing purplish colors, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  • Check Ink Levels: Make sure that all the ink cartridges in your printer have sufficient ink levels. Low ink levels can affect the color quality of your prints.
  • Print Quality Diagnostic Page: Print a quality diagnostic page from your printer. This will help you identify if the issue is with the printer hardware or with the computer/software settings.
  • Clean Print Heads: Use the printer's maintenance options to clean the print heads. This can help remove any clogs or debris that may be affecting the print quality.
  • Check Color Settings: Ensure that the color settings in your printing preferences are set correctly. Sometimes, incorrect color settings can result in unexpected color outputs.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause printing issues.
  • Calibrate Printer: Some printers offer calibration options which can help improve color accuracy. Check your printer's manual or settings menu for calibration options.
  • Try Different Paper: Sometimes, the type or quality of paper being used can affect color output. Try printing on different types of paper to see if the issue persists.
  • Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can try resetting your printer to its factory settings. This can help resolve any software-related issues that may be causing the problem.
