Hi @DanJoyPat,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the cartridges in your HP printer are not moving to the center when you open the cartridge access door, try the following steps:

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes and then plug it back in.
  • Turn it on and open the cartridge access door again.

Check for Obstructions

  • Make sure there is no paper jam or debris inside the printer that could be blocking the carriage movement.
  • Use a flashlight to check inside.

Manually Move the Cartridge Carriage (if possible)

  • With the printer turned off, gently try to move the carriage to the center by hand.
  • Do not force it if there is resistance.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the printer while it is turned on.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check the Printer Display for Errors

  • If the printer has a touchscreen, check for any error messages related to the carriage or ink system.
  • If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit HP’s support website and check for the latest firmware update for your printer model.

Try Printing a Test Page

  • Sometimes initiating a print job can force the carriage to move.
  • Print a test page from the printer’s menu or your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
