We have a used HP Office jet 6700 Premium, we just set it up, it has color and black ink cartridges installed but when I try to print or make copies nothing prints, it goes through the motions, it doesn't print, although it sounds like it is printing. We cleaned the pinheads, and the test page printed properly, we did the alignment, and the page printed properly. When I try to print a document, it sounds like it is printing, and the paper comes out but it's blank. Any suggestions.

Hi @Ruth-1956, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium successfully prints test pages and alignment pages but not regular documents, the issue is likely software-related rather than a hardware problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:
Check Ink Levels
Even though test pages print, ensure your ink cartridges have sufficient ink:
- On the printer's touchscreen, go to Setup > Ink Levels.
- If any cartridge is low or empty, replace it.
Remove and Reinstall Ink Cartridges
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges and check for any protective seals that might not have been removed.
- Reinstall the cartridges securely and power the printer back on.
Run the Printhead Cleaning Utility
Even though you cleaned the printheads manually, use the built-in cleaning function:
- On the printer, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
- Run it a few times if necessary.
Try a Different Document and Software
- Print from a different application (e.g., Notepad, Word, PDF).
- If you were printing a webpage, try saving it as a PDF and then printing.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Windows: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, remove the HP OfficeJet 6700, and reinstall it.
- Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, remove the printer, and re-add it.
- Download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
Check Print Settings
- Ensure the correct paper type and print quality settings are selected.
- Make sure "Print in Grayscale" is not enabled in printer properties.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 5 minutes.
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check for Firmware Updates
- On the printer, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
- If an update is available, install it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
