Hi @christina2003,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry you're encountering this frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet 4632. Let’s work through the problem together to get your printer back up and running.

  • Is the black ink cartridge still showing adequate ink levels before this error occurred?
  • Are you using genuine HP cartridges for both the black and color cartridges?
  • Did the error message appear immediately after replacing the color cartridge, or did it take some time?

Let's try these steps.

Verify Both Cartridges Are Installed Correctly:

  • Open the printer's cartridge access door.
  • Ensure both the black and color cartridges are properly seated in their respective slots.
  • Remove and reseat the black cartridge, even though it hasn't been replaced, to ensure proper contact.

Check the Error Message for Details:

  • Carefully read the printer display to confirm which cartridge is flagged for replacement. If it specifically mentions the black cartridge, it may no longer be recognized by the printer.
  • If the printer does not provide a clear message, try printing a test page to see which cartridge triggers the error.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Remove both the black and color cartridges.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on both cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in and powering it on.
  • Recheck for the error message and attempt to print.

Test with a New Black Cartridge:

  • If the error persists and the message indicates a problem with the black cartridge, it may be necessary to replace it. Over time, even partially full cartridges can dry out or become unrecognizable due to wear.

If these steps do not resolve the issue and you are using genuine HP cartridges, the problem may lie with the printer's cartridge detection system. Contacting HP phone support for further assistance might be necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
