Hi @Tinie14,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer continues to show that ink cartridges are depleted despite installing new ones, try the following steps.
Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges are compatible with the OfficeJet Pro 7740. Using non-HP or refilled cartridges may sometimes cause recognition issues.
Re-seat the Cartridges: Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges, then reinstall them securely. Make sure they click into place.
Clean the Contacts:
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridges and gently clean the copper contacts on both the cartridges and inside the cartridge slot with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Let them dry before reinserting.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the error clears.
Update Firmware: Sometimes, an outdated firmware can cause cartridge issues. Check HP's support site for the latest firmware for the OfficeJet Pro 7740 and install it if needed.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Unplug the printer while it's powered on.
- Wait for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
