The printer was working fine. I needed to replace the ink cartridge and when I did replace it with the HP cartridge it gave me a error with the blue one that it was depleted. I ordered a new cartridge and it is giving me the exact same error. I cleaned the pins, I reset the printer and turn it off and turn it back on but issue is not going away. I really need help with this.

My printer is HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 series.

Hi @Habib28,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how disruptive it is when your printer, which was working perfectly just days ago, suddenly refuses to recognize even genuine HP cartridges. You’ve already done some great first steps — let’s dig deeper together and get your OfficeJet Pro 7740 printing again.

1. Confirm Cartridge Authenticity

Double-check that the replacement cyan cartridge is genuine HP and not expired.

2. Manually Reseat the Cyan Cartridge

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Open the cartridge access door and remove the cyan cartridge.
  3. Carefully inspect the copper contacts on both the cartridge and inside the slot.
  4. Gently clean them again with a soft lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol. Allow them to dry completely.
  5. Reseat the cartridge firmly but gently—you should hear a click.

3. Try a Hard Reset

  1. With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cable from the back without shutting it down first.
  2. Unplug from the wall outlet and wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back into the wall first, then into the printer.
  4. Turn it on and check if the error persists.

4. Update the Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause false cartridge errors, even with genuine ink.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
