My 8600 printer indicates "one more cartridges may be damaged" and indicates the yellow cartridge.  I have replaced all the cartridges and there is no change

@cheztal, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check for cartridge installation

  • Ensure that the yellow cartridge is installed correctly. It should click into place properly and be seated firmly. Double-check that it isn't crooked or partially inserted.

Inspect the cartridge for damage

  • Even though you've replaced the cartridge, it's worth verifying that the new yellow cartridge is not defective. Try swapping it with another cartridge (say, the magenta one) to see if the error moves to a different color.

Clean the contacts on the cartridges

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the yellow cartridge and use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dipped in distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer’s contact points.
  • Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

Reset the printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset any internal errors or glitches.

Check for firmware updates

  • Sometimes, a firmware update can fix bugs related to cartridge errors. Visit the HP support website, find your printer model, and check for any firmware updates. You can also update it through the printer's control panel if it’s connected to Wi-Fi.

Perform a hard reset on the printer

  • Disconnect the printer from the power source.
  • While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. This will discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the printer to the power source and turn it on.

Try a different cartridge (even if new)

  • If possible, try installing a different yellow cartridge, even if you’ve already replaced it with a new one. Occasionally, new cartridges can also be faulty.

Run printer diagnostics

  • Some printers have diagnostic tools that can help identify issues with the ink system. On your HP 8600, you may be able to run a printer self-test or diagnostic check through the control panel.

Check for ink cartridge protection tape

  • Make sure the protective plastic tape covering the ink nozzles on the new cartridges has been completely removed.

Perform a Printhead Cleaning

  • If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, the printhead itself may be clogged or malfunctioning. Run the printhead cleaning cycle through the printer’s settings or maintenance menu.
