Hi @Bruce253, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with your HP Color LaserJet CP1215—where colored text prints with an unwanted color border—suggests a problem with color calibration, toner alignment, or possible contamination inside the printer. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Print a Supplies Status Page

This will help you check toner levels and if there's any indication of a problem with a specific cartridge.

  • Go to Devices and Printers > Right-click on HP Color LaserJet CP1215 > Select Printer Properties > Click Print Test Page.
  • If one toner cartridge is low or defective, replacing it may resolve the issue.

Perform a Color Calibration

  • Open the HP Toolbox (installed with your printer driver).
  • Navigate to Device Settings > Print Quality.
  • Select Calibrate Color and follow the instructions.
  • Print a test page and check if the issue is resolved.

Check for Toner Contamination or Defects

  • Remove each toner cartridge and inspect the drum and contacts for excess toner buildup.
  • If toner is leaking or unevenly distributed, try shaking the cartridge gently to redistribute the toner.
  • If a cartridge looks damaged or is near the end of life, consider replacing it.

Clean the Laser Scanner Assembly

  • Dust or toner buildup on the laser scanner mirror can cause color misalignment.
  • Power off the printer, remove the toners, and use a dry, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the internal optics if accessible.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Since you're using Windows XP, ensure you have the latest drivers from HP official site.
  • Try reinstalling the printer drivers if the problem persists.

Print a Different File Format

  • Sometimes, PDF or Word documents may handle colors differently. Try printing from different applications to see if the problem persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
