Hi @SIMSBALDWIN,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message "one or more cartridges appear to be damaged" on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 can be due to various issues related to the cartridges or the printer itself. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Steps to Troubleshoot:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check the Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks.
  • Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause errors.
  • Reinstall the cartridges firmly and ensure they are seated correctly.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridges and gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Avoid touching the nozzles.
  • Let the contacts dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can download and install the latest firmware from the HP support website.

Replace the Problematic Cartridge:

  • If the error persists, identify which cartridge is causing the issue. You can do this by checking the printer's display panel or control panel messages.
  • Replace the identified cartridge with a new, genuine HP cartridge.

Additional Steps:

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix printing and scanning problems.

Printer Self-Diagnostic:

  • From the printer's control panel, navigate to the printer maintenance or settings menu and look for a self-diagnostic or troubleshooting option.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and fix the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 printer not recognizing the cartridges properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
