@HB1946, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Supply System Problem" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 after replacing cartridges is a known issue and HP provides a structured troubleshooting guide to resolve it. Here are the key steps you can try:

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
  • Turn the printer back on.

Clean Cartridge Vents

  • Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Remove each cartridge.
  • Inspect the vent area (small holes on top of the cartridge) for any adhesive or debris.
  • Use a pin or paperclip to gently clear any blockage.
  • Reinsert the cartridges securely.

Check for Genuine HP Cartridges

  • Ensure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges can trigger this error.
  • If you're unsure, you can verify them via the HP Smart app or HP's cartridge authentication page.

Replace the Cartridges

  • If cleaning doesn’t help, try replacing the cartridges with a new set (preferably HP-branded).

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP Software and Drivers and check for the latest firmware for your printer model.

Service the Printer

  • If none of the above steps work, the issue might be with the printhead or internal ink system.
We suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
