I just bought an HP 64XL black cartridge.  I put it in the printer, and for the first time ever, I keep getting a message that the indicated cartridge is not communicating with the printer, and of course I just went to town to buy a new cartridge because I need to print some things tonight,

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Maggie-1910,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry you're running into the Ink not communicating error. This issue is with your HP 64xl black cartridge not communicating with your HP Envy Photo 7155, even though it's brand new. Sorry to hear about the issue.

Please try the steps shared below and let me know if this helps.

  1. Leave the printer turned on, then unplug the power cable from both the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cable back into the wall outlet, then into the printer.
  4. Turn the printer on if it doesn't power on automatically.
  5. Remove the black ink cartridge.
  6. Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the slot using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
  7. Let both surfaces dry completely (wait about 5 minutes).
  8. Reinstall the cartridge and close the lid.

       9. Try another HP 64 or 64xl cartridge if you have one — this helps identify if the issue is with the printer or the cartridge.

     10. Make sure the cartridge is genuine HP — the printer may reject third-party or damaged chips.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
