Hi @Abs2700,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your new Instant Ink black cartridge is not printing anything and producing blank pages, there could be several potential issues at play. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure Proper Installation: Remove the cartridge and reinsert it to make sure it’s seated correctly. You should hear a click when it’s properly installed.
  • Remove Protective Tape: Verify that any protective tape or plastic that comes with the new cartridge has been removed. This tape is often found on the nozzle or contacts and must be removed before installation.

2. Verify Ink Levels

  • Check Cartridge Status: Use the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to check the status of the new cartridge. Ensure it is recognized by the printer and shows as having ink.

3. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Print a Test Page: Use your printer’s built-in diagnostics to print a test page or a nozzle check. This can help determine if the printer is recognizing the cartridge and if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer itself.
    • Windows: Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Properties or Printer Properties. Look for options related to maintenance or diagnostics.
    • Mac: Open Printers & Scanners from System Preferences, select your printer, and click Options & Supplies.

4. Clean the Printhead

  • Perform a Printhead Cleaning:
    • Windows: Open the HP Smart app or your printer’s software. Look for an option to clean or align the printhead.
    • Mac: Go to Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and look for maintenance options.
  • Manual Cleaning: If automatic cleaning doesn’t work, you can manually clean the printhead. Follow these steps:
    1. Turn Off Printer: Make sure the printer is off and unplugged.
    2. Remove Cartridges: Take out the ink cartridges.
    3. Clean the Printhead: Gently clean the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab moistened with distilled water or rubbing alcohol. Be careful not to damage the printhead.
    4. Reinstall Cartridges: Reinsert the cartridges and power on the printer.

5. Check Printer Settings

  • Check for Print Settings: Ensure that the printer settings are correct and that you haven’t accidentally selected an option that might prevent printing (e.g., printing in draft mode or using grayscale).

6. Update Printer Firmware and Software

  • Update Firmware: Check for any available firmware updates for your printer on the HP support website or through the HP Smart app.
  • Update Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date.

7. Test with Another Cartridge

  • Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, try using a different black cartridge (preferably from a different batch or a known working one) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge or the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
