HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Installed new yellow cartridge on 22 January 2025, 3HZ98A, warranty ends 2026/05. Got cartridge function error. Invoked Virtual Assistant. Tried all resolutions, none worked. Requested cartridge replacement, Virtual Assistant returned an error when final(?) submission occurred, Communication reference: 4qXCfMgQ8BPzZRCGu6nxs-us Time (UTC): 2025-01-22T20:55:47.636Z.

Virtual Assistant is unreliable, directed me to this forum.

Hi @csscouter,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the cartridge function error you're experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series printer can be frustrating, especially if you've already tried multiple resolutions. Here's a step-by-step guide to address the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Confirm that the yellow cartridge (3HZ98A) is compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series printer. It should match the supported cartridge type listed in your printer manual or on HP's website.

Inspect the Cartridge:

  • Remove the yellow cartridge and inspect it for any visible damage, leaks, or packaging remnants.
  • Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for 2–3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in, turn it on, and reinstall the cartridge when prompted.

Run a Printer Diagnostic:

  • Access the printer's diagnostic tools via the touchscreen display. Look for options like "Printer Maintenance" or "Ink Cartridge Troubleshooting."

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Visit HP's support page to download and install the latest firmware for your printer model.

Replace the Cartridge Again:

  • If the issue persists, try inserting a different yellow cartridge (if available). If the problem is resolved, the original cartridge may be defective.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
